Kane, Hawaiian God of Creation

Kane
Hawaiian God of Creation

Kane is believed to have come through the gateway of the rising sun at Ha’eha’e, the easternmost point in the Hawaiian Islands.
In Hawaiian mythology Kane is the most revered of the four major gods (Kane, Ku, Kanaloa and Lono).
Kane is the god of procreation, creation and the sky. He is also worshipped as the ancestor of chiefs and commoners.

The Kumuhonua legend tells that Kane created earth, sea creatures, animals, plants, as well as man and woman. Kāne is the creator and the giver of life associated with dawn, sun and sky.

According to ancient Hawaiian mythology, it is believed that in the beginning, there was only Po; the endless black chaos. By an act of sheer will, Kane pulled himself free of Po. Lono and Ku followed him.
Kane created light to push back Po. Lono brought sound to the universe and Ku brought substance. Then they created all the lesser Gods and the Menehune to be their messengers and servants. Next the four Gods shaped the world. At last, they molded clay with their spittle into the shape of a man in the image of Kane and breathed life into the statue.”

Kane is strongly connected and often walks with Kanaloa, the God of the Ocean, thrusting his digging stick into rocks and releasing gushes of fresh water wherever he goes. On their journeys together Kane and Kanaloa would share the sacred drink of 'Awa (drink of the gods). Striking the ground with his staffs Kane caused hidden springs of fresh water to burst forth.

Kane’s regenerative waters have the power to create and renew.
They provide refreshment and rejuvenation, the light of understanding and
the ability to begin again.

Kane is the “inner source that guides us to well springs within our own psyches”.
All aspects of life are sacred to Kane in the flow of his creation.

Kane’s waters restore energy and harmony.

The great God Kane inspired the creation of Hawaiian Art Doll Kane.
