Iniki and Lilo, the Surfers

Iniki and Lilo inspire us to surrender to the waves of life with focus and balance,
allowing them to safely carry us to our highest goals.
Iniki and Lilo are blond and blue eyed Menehune Mahoes (twins) and inseparable. Their best friend and greatest teacher is the ocean. Iniki is a He’e Nalu (surfer boy) and Lilo is a Wahine He’e Nalu (surfer girl).
Holding hands they run down to Punalu’u Black Sands Beach. When the surf is up, they surrender to the great power of the waves. Their hearts dance with Hopupu (excitement) as they eagerly anticipates the challenges of the great waves.
Iniki and Lilo love the Pacific Ocean and the surf has been their greatest teacher, evoking deep respect and humbleness within them. They know that every wave presents a challenge of going with its flow. Iniki and Lilo watch the waves, feel them inside, and connect to their Mana (spiritual energy).
Like the wind, they fly along the sea on their Olos (surfboards), riding the waves with focus and balance, Iniki and Lilo find the perfect attitude between tension and flexibility and ride the great wave home. It is the very best feeling in the world.
Surfing is magical; it has become their way of life!
Iniki is named after the strong winds of the Pacific Ocean.
Lilo's name means devotion and she is devoted to the ocean.

Lilo is a Goddess in the Surf!

Sliding across the face of a wave,
returning to the curl.
The Honu (sea turtle) is Lilo's Aumakua (Guardian Spirit). Lilo is deeply connected with the ancient wisdom of the Turtle. The Hawaiian Honu represents long life, safety, peace, and good luck.
Iniki's Aumakua is Moholani, the divine Mo'o (gecko). It is a great honor in Hawaii to have the ancient Moholani as your Aumakua. Moholani evokes good luck, strength, and protection. In honor of his Aumakua, Iniki wears a necklace with a silver gecko pendant around his neck.
Iniki and Lilo always feel safe when they surf because they know that their Aumakuas are watching over them.
Iniki, Lilo and their Kuku (grandfather) made the Olos (surfboards) together. First they chose the right Hawaiian Wiliwili tree for the boards. Before cutting the tree, they faced towards the sea and said a prayer of thanks for the wood they would use. They honored the spirit of the tree by burying a fish beneath it. Last Iniki, Lilo and Kuku painted a design of the divine Mo'o on Iniki's Olo and 4 Honus on Lilo's Olo. The wooden Olos are Lilo’s and Iniki's most treasured possession. They always carry them with them, even when they go to sleep.
Iniki’s Tutu (grandmother) sewed Kimo's green Lava blue and green surfer shorts and crocheted green shoes. Last Tutu draped the Mo'o pendant around his neck.
Tutu sewed Lilo's blue and green bikini with matching green shoes. Last Tutu lovingly put a fragrant Plumeria flower in Lilo's hair.
All these things were Tutu’s and Kuku's sacred gifts of Aloha (Love) to their beloved Mo'opunas (grandchildren).
Iniki and Lilo are about 4” tall fitting in the palm of your hand. Their bodies are made out of stretch cotton and wired for flexibility. The eyes and mouth are intricately embroidered onto their faces. Iniki and Lilo have tiny little hands and feet, ears, buttocks, and belly buttons.
All accessories were individually handcrafted.
Iniki and Lilo are one of a kind collectible display dolls handcrafted by Hawaiian Dolls.
