Hawaii's Coral Reef, Sacred Landscape of the Pacific Ocean

The magnificent Puna (Coral) is a gift from the ocean.

Coral is believed to have great magical and medicinal Mana (spiritual energy). It is the stone of passion and healing. Coral provides protection from illness and harm. According to research, corals contain hormones which have a strong positive influence on the human body. Ashes from burned Coral heal wounds and ulcers. Coral powder dissolved in water is an effective pain-killer.

Coral also is believed to attract love, prosperity, creativity, optimism, inner peace, strength and understanding of life's purpose.

Hawaii's coral reefs stretch out for more than 1200 miles in the Pacific Ocean, covering about 85% of all coral reefs in the US. The reef is of great importance to the ocean environment and its inhabitants as well as to humans. It supports marine and terrestrial life.
They look just like rocks, but reefs are alive. Corals give them their structure, offering habitat and food to the many fish, lobsters, octopus and crabs. The 500 different species of algae growing on the Hawaiian coral reef provide food and life-sustaining oxygen for all marine life. Algae provide more oxygen than all land plants worldwide combined.
Many of the plants, fish, and invertebrates found in the Hawaiian coral reef are endemic to Hawaii. In old Hawaii reef fish provided the people with  protein and are still considered a delicacy today.

Reefs protect shorelines from erosion and storm damage by limiting the impact of strong waves.

The beautiful beaches of Hawaii were created by the coral reef. Beach sand evolves from dead fragments of coral, shells and calcified algae.

The great surfing waves of Hawaii are shaped by the reefs.
Snorkeling and diving in the enchanting coral reef makes the Pacific Ocean and underwater paradise, which allows us to connect with the wonders of nature.
Hawaiian reefs are endangered. Showing respect and appreciation by helping to clean the beaches, catching only the fish that are really needed, refraining from throwing waste into the water will help to sustain our precious coral reefs.

Malama Ka'aina!- Care for the land!

The magnificent Hawaiian Coral inspired the creation of Menehune Boy Puna (Coral).

Puna (Coral), the Healer

Birthdate: Kepakemapa 1, 2016 (09-01-16)

Allow Puna to be your healing guide!
His coral Mana restores Pono (harmony) in mind, body and soul.

Puna's gift to you is his precious red bamboo coral staff. Red coral is the stone of passion and healing. Puna reflects the coral's great magical and medicinal Mana (spiritual energy).
Puna is a Ho'ola (healer). Walking along the shores of the magnificent Punalu’u Black Sands Beach, he searches for the gorgeous corals, he is named after. When the signs are right and the spirits permit, he gathers the corals. Chanting a Pule (prayer) to give thanks for the gift, Puna cleans the corals in the ocean water and merges with their Mana.
As soon as he enters his Ohana’s (family’s) village, all the Menehunes gather around him. “Aloha e Puna!” they greet him respectfully. Puna is the Menehune’s Ho'ola. Being around Puna’s corals and healing Mana leaves the Menehunes with a feeling of deep inner peace and happiness.

Puna's Tutu (grandmother) sewed his blue lava lava (wraparound). She hand drew a red coral and limu (sea grass) design on the front of the lava lava to enhance Puna's magical coral Mana. All these things were Tutu's sacred gifts of Aloha (Love) to her beloved Mo’opuna Kane (grandson).

Magical Fairy Tales

Pu, the Menehune Mo'olelo (Story Teller)

Fairy tales have a wonderful secretive power. They draw magic into our lives and inspire us with a sense of wonder. Enchantment, magical spells, dwarfs, giants, witches and always the triumph of good over evil have fascinated humanity for centuries.
As a little girl in Germany my childhood was filled with fairy tales and magic. Every night my grandmother or my mother would read a fairy tale to me. I loved to hear them over and over again.
My grandmother’s Brother Grimm's fairy tale book is still one of my most cherished possessions. Opening the precious book with the wonderful pictures is like stepping into a world of magic.
Fairy tales shaped my life, teaching me to dream, believe and love.

At an early age I learned that all things magical require faith.

Fairy tales have been passed down from mother to daughter, father to son, for hundreds of years. Our ancestors talk to us through fairy tales, reawakening memories that go beyond childhood into past lifes reminding us of the trans-formative power of stories.

My love of fairy tales inspired the creation of Pu and Honu.

Pu and Honu
Conch Shell and Turtle

Birth Date: Kepakemapa 4, 2016 (09/04/16)

Pu, the Mo’olelo (story teller) uses the power of words to weave wishes into reality.

Standing up on a hill in the Kaiholena Mountains, Pu blows his conch shell in the 4 sacred directions, announcing to his Menehune Ohana (family) that he is ready to tell another one of his exciting stories to them. As the powerful sound of Pu’s conch shell echoes across the 'Aina (land), the Menehunes come running to the story place in the ferns to hear Pu’s new tale.

Pu tells stories about the Menehune Ohana, the Hawaiian animals, the forest, the ocean, and the stars in the Universe. The Menehunes listen to Pu’s story in wonder, sometimes laughing, sometimes crying, and always full of excitement. Pu’s stories are wonderful!

Pu uses his words to weave the story into being. He knows that words and thoughts have tremendous power to shape reality, changing the past, present, and future.
Pu knows how to tell your story too!
He will use his words to weave your wishes into reality.

Honu is listening too. She is Pu’s Aumakua (guardian spirit) and has become his faithful companion. Pu is deeply connected with the ancient wisdom of Honu. In Hawaii the Honu represents long life, safety, peace, and good luck.
The conch shell was Kuku’s (grandfather’s) gift of Aloha (love) to his Mo’opuna Kane (grandson). Pu always carries his conch shell, even when he goes to sleep. It attracts good luck and the courage to manifest dreams.
Pu’s Tutu (grandmother) sewed his lava lava (wraparound) out of red cotton and crocheted a green hat, underwear and matching shoes. She hand painted 3 green honus on the lava lava and wrapped a Honu amulet around Pu's neck to invoke divine blessings. Last she put a white Plumeria Flower on little Honu who loves its beauty and sweet fragrance.

Pu is about 4” tall, fitting in the palm of your hand. The body is made out of stretch cotton and wired for flexibility. The eyes and mouth are intricately embroidered onto the face. Pu has little hands and feet, ears, buttocks, and a belly button. Honu is about 1" long. The body is made out of faux fur and wired for flexibility. All accessories were individually handcrafted.

Lomi'ili'ili, the Hawaiian Dancing Healing Stones

Malama Ola

Honor your Health

As the soothing touch of ‘ili’ili caresses the skin, Mana (spiritual energy) starts flowing through the body restoring balance and harmony.

In ancient times Kahunas (magicians) would travel Hawaii’s black sand beaches searching for the small lava stones called ‘Ili’ili. With spiritual guidance they accepted the gift of ‘Ili’ili if the signs were right. Before the healing began, they performed a ritual, cleaning the stones with fire and charging them with their Mana. Thus ‘Ili’ili became powerful healing tools.

In old Hawaii the loss of Pono was believed to be the cause of all illnesses. Kahunas used the therapeutic energy of ‘Ili’ili to call the spirits of the body, draw out the pain, and guide their patients onto the path of healing.

Mele (chant) and Hula were part of the healing process. The sacred ‘Ili’ilis were used as stone castanets which added sound, rhythm, cadence, and visual affects to the hula. Dancing and chanting invoked the ancestors’ blessings for restoring the body’s healing Mana.

Up to this day, Lomi’ili’ili is a massage where the hot lava stones are used as an extension of the hands to restore Pono (harmony) in mind, body and soul. It has become one of the most requested massage treatments in the world.

Lomi’ili’ili is healing beyond the body leading into spiritual transformation.

‘Ili’ili was created in honor of the sacred Hawaiian dancing healing stones.

Birth Date: Kepakemapa 1, 2016 (09/01/16)

Allow ‘Ili’ili to be your healing guide. She will help you to restore Pono (harmony) in mind, body and soul.

Walking along beautiful Punalu’u Black Sands Beach, little ‘Ili’ili busily searches for the perfect small, black lava pebbles she is named after. When the signs are right and the spirits permit, she gathers the ‘ili’ilis into her sacred Pupu (shell). Chanting a Pule (prayer) to give thanks for the gift, ‘Ili’ili cleans the stones with fire and charges them with her Mana (spiritual energy).
As soon as ‘Ili’ili enters her Ohana’s (family’s) village, all the Menehunes gather around her. “Aloha e ‘Ili’ili!” they greet her respectfully. ‘Ili’ili is the Menehune’s healing dancer. They cherish her special Lomi’ili’ili massages. She always places and moves the sacred hot lava pebbles on just the right places of their bodies to draw out the pain. She also chants to invoke the blessings of the spirits and dances the wonderful Hula ‘ili’ili, using her lava rocks as stone castanets.

Being around ‘Ili’ili’s healing Mana leaves the Menehunes with a feeling of deep inner peace and happiness.

‘Ili’ili’s Tutu (grandmother) wove her Mana and Aloha (love) into her purple feather and sea grass Haku (head lei).Tutu sewed ‘Ili’ili’s’s purple dress and crocheted the matching panties and shoes. Last Tutu adorned ‘Ili’ili’s beautiful blond hair with a sweet smelling Plumeria flower. All these things were Tutu’s gifts of Aloha to her beloved Mo’opuna Wahine (granddaughter).

'Ili’ili is about 4” tall fitting in the palm of your hand. The body is made out of stretch cotton and wired for flexibility. The eyes and mouth are intricately embroidered onto the face. ‘Ili’ili has tiny little hands and feet, ears, buttocks, and a belly button.
All accessories were individually handcrafted.

Kiwi, the Little Hawaiian Witch

Creating a miniature Menehune witch combining colors, dress codes and accessories pertaining to Hawaii challenged my imagination.
But here she is:

Birth Date: 'Aukake 7, 2016 (08-07-16)

Kiwi’s magical Mana (spiritual energy) casts blessings of love and joy.

Kiwi zooms on her broom over the Menehune's village, casting blessings and magical spells of Aloha (love) upon everyone she meets. Kiwi’s happiness is contagious and in no time all everybody wears big smiles on their faces.

Kiwi is a little Kahuna (magician) of joy!

Kiwi's Aumakua (Guardian Spirit) is the Hawaiian Peʻape'a (bat). Pe'a's messages come to Kiwi in visions and dreams. Kiwi always follows Pe'ape'a’s guidance and advise knowing that it will keep her and her Menehune Ohana (family) save from all harm and lead them to happiness and good fortune. Kiwi knows that Pe'ape'a carries the Mana of supernatural powers.

Kiwi’s Tutu (grandmother) sewed her skirt, top and hat out of silky black material. She decorated the hat with a purple feather lei. Tutu crocheted purple panties and matching pointy witch’s shoes. She decorated Kiwi's top and the tips of the shoes with purple crystals. Tutu drew a purple Pe'ape'a on the front of Kiwi's skirt to invoke the protection of her Aumakua. The color purple symbolizes magic and matches Kiwi's mystical spirit.
Tutu put an orange Plumeria flower behind Kiwi's ear. It looks just perfect in her beautiful orange hair. Last Tutu gave Kiwi her magical flying witch broom.
All these things were Tutu’s gifts of Aloha (Love) to her Mo’opuna Wahine (granddaughter).

Kiwi is about 4” tall fitting in the palm of your hand. The body is made out of stretch cotton and wired for flexibility. The eyes and mouth are intricately embroidered onto the face. Kiwi has tiny little hands and feet, buttocks, and a belly button. All accessories were individually handcrafted.

Kaua'i, the Garden Isle

Kaua'i is the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands. Mysterious and beautiful, covered with tropical rain forest, waterfalls and endless rainbows, it has been named 'the Garden Isle'.
The lush beauty of the 'Garden Isle' inspired the creation of Menehune Boy Kaua'i and his Honu (turtle).

Birthdate: Lulai 16, 2016 (07/16/16)

Kauai’s music illuminates life with joy and happiness.

Living Hawaii’s Aloha spirit, Kaua'i and Honu (Turtle) have all the time in the world. Together they meander through the beautiful forest in the Kaiholena Mountains cherishing all they see, hear, and feel. Wonderful and exciting things keep happening. Everywhere they go they are greeted with kindness and abundance: the sun warms their bodies, the birds sing their most beautiful songs, flowers open to embrace them with their sweet scent. When they are hungry food appears on their path, a crunchy green leaf for Honu, a big yellow Mai’a (banana) for Kaua'i. The small mountain stream offers cool, fresh water for them to drink their fill.
The delightful sound of Kaua'i's Ukulele echoes across the Aina (land) accompanying his songs about the Menehune Ohana (family), Hawaiian animals, the forest, the ocean, and the stars in the Universe.

Honu Iki and Honu remind us that there is always more than enough time to fulfill all desires.
Their cheerful Mana (Spiritual Energy) brightens up the day with love and laughter.

Kauai is named after the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands, mysterious and charming Kauai, also called the 'Garden Isle'.
Honu is Kaua'i’s Aumakua (guardian spirit) and she has become his faithful companion. Kaua'i is deeply connected with the ancient wisdom of Honu. In Hawaii the Honu represents long life, safety, peace, and good luck.

Kaua'i’sTutu (grandmother) wove her Mana (spiritual energy) and Aloha (love) into the Hulu (feather) leis he wears around his neck and Lauhala hat. In Hawaii the Hulu lei symbolizes love, honor and respect. Tutu also sewed Kaua'i's lava lava (wraparound) out of white cotton and crocheted yellow underwear and matching shoes. Last she put a white Plumeria Flower on Honu who loves its beauty and sweet fragrance.
The Ukulele was Kuku’s (grandfather’s) gift of lasting love and Aloha to his beloved Mo’opuna Kane (grandson). It is Kaua'i’s most cherished possession. He holds it even when he goes to sleep.

Kaua'i is about 4” tall, fitting in the palm of your hand. The eyes and mouth are intricately embroidered onto the face. Kaua'i has tiny little hands and feet, ears, buttocks, and a belly button. Honu is about 1" long. The body is made out of faux fur and wired for flexibility. All accessories were individually handcrafted.

In the evenings Kaua'i often accompanies the Hula dances of his little sister Ola (Life) with his Ukulele. In perfect harmony they express their Aloha Aina (love of the land).

Kaua'i and Honu are one of a kind display dolls handcrafted by Hawaiian Dolls. They come with their story and a certificate of authenticity.

Kaua'i and Honu channel the Aloha spirit of Hawaii.
