Volcano Goddess Pele, Transformation and Creation

Since May 2018 Volcano Goddess Pele has been more active than ever on the Big Island. Creation and transformation are her daily ritual. Molten lava continues its relentless, unstoppable flow down Kilauea volcano. Pele is known for her passionate and fiery temperament. Pele is Ka wahine 'ai honua, the woman who devours the land.

When Pele meets the ocean billowing clouds of steam and tiny particles of volcanic gas flow over the coastline.

The people of Hawaii know that the wrath of Pele can be destructive,
but it is a part of nature that is not to be disturbed.

Halemaumau Crater, the eruptive vent, explodes, collapses and expands on a daily basis. Halemaumau Crater is Pele's home.
It is located about 30 miles from Wood Valley in Ka'u, where I live. We are not affected by the lava, but there are the daily ash fall, the sulfur air and the many earthquakes. Everything changed since the volcano started erupting. It leaves me in a state of humbleness, fear, anticipation, uneasiness as well as admiration. Very confusing feelings!

Of course, Madame Pele’s outbursts have greatly inspired my creations.

Pele offers her passion to remind us that life’s fiery eruptions
often clear the path for positive transformations.
