Kokua, the Mana of Kindness

In the Hawaiian language Kokua means help. It is another word with a deep and rich history like Aloha, which isn't simply a greeting but also a philosophy about treating others with love and compassion. Mahalo, meaning thank you, encompasses the spirit of gratitude.

As a foundation of and a way of life in Hawaii, Kokua is the Mana of kindness with a desire to help one another in a loving and sacrificial way without expecting anything in return.

In Hawaii this important concept is taught to children from a young age by the Kupuna, who are the older people honored with Aloha as grandparents and ancestors by all. Kupunas are the source of experience, knowledge, guidance, strength and inspiration to the next generations.

They are a blessing being the ones we came from, who have lived before us

and who we live for today.

The selfless spirit of Kokua contributes greatly to the harmony in Hawaiian communities and relationships.

High up in the Kaiholena Mountains, Kokua’s drumming echoes the wisdom of the ancestors.
His sister Kupuna Auana gracefully dances the Hula to the enchanting rhythm of the Pahu (drum).

Kokua and Auana are Kupunas, the older people honored with Aloha as grandparents and ancestors by all. Kupunas are the source of experience, knowledge, guidance, strength and inspiration to the next generations.

Kupunas are a blessing being the ones we came from, who have lived before us

and who we live for today.

Kokua is named after the Mana of kindness. At all times Kokua helps others in a loving and sacrificial way without expecting anything in return.

Kokua is his way of life!

Kokua wears a tapa cloth lava lava (wraparound) with a green belt, a white shell necklace and a Maile Haku on his long white hair. Maile is the lei of eternal love.
Kokua’s Pahu is made out of the stem of a coconut palm.

Kokua is a 10” tall cloth doll who was individually handcrafted on the Big Island of Hawaii with the greatest love and respect for all that is Hawaii. His body is made out of doll skin and stuffed with high quality poly fill. The body is wired for flexibility. The eyes and mouth are intricately embroidered onto the face.
All accessories were individually hand crafted.

Kokua is not a dress up doll. All clothing and accessories are sewn and/or glued onto him.

Doll care: Gently brush the dolls and their clothing with a soft toothbrush to remove dust. Always brush the faces and bodies upwards towards the hair. Do not brush the hair!
